About the awards:
"Celebrating people who use digital technology to bring about positive social change
The 2009 TalkTalk Digital Heroes Awards is the UK’s only scheme to reward the amazing individuals who are using digital technology to benefit their local communities.
The awards will be given to
outstanding individuals, working within UK community groups or charities, who are using the power of digital technology to implement bright ideas which bring about positive social change. The awards will be used to fund both new and existing digital projects.
Last year our TalkTalk awards – then known as the Innovation in the Community Awards – saw an incredible response with over 2,200 entries received, the highest ever. This year we have renamed the Awards and changed the format to reflect our focus on the people using digital technology to make Britain a better place to live. This year, we have increased the awards from £2,000 to £5,000. 12 regional winners from across the UK will receive cash grants of £5,000 each to fund digital projects – as well as getting free broadband to help them make the most of the internet. From these, one overall winner will be chosen by our judging panel to receive £10,000 plus free broadband!
Winners will be invited to receive their awards at a special ceremony at the Houses of Parliament in November.
Applications are invited until 11 September 2009."
